International conference “UA-EU: Strategic Partnership in the Pharmaceutical Sector”: State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control has signed Memorandum of Understanding with Lithuanian counterparts

 

On 9 December the representatives of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health, Medical Assistance and Medical Insurance and the State Expert Center took part in the international conference "UA-EU: Strategic Partnership in the Pharmaceutical Sector," which was held in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The conference was organized by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in cooperation with the Association of National Pharmaceutical Companies “Medicine Manufacturers of Ukraine” and the Association of European Manufacturers “Medicines for Europe.”

The conference was attended by representatives of national regulatory authorities of EU member states and Ukraine, international specializing organizations, Ukrainian and European pharmaceutical manufacturers, sectoral professional associations, other national and European institutions.

The purpose of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control representatives' participation in the conference is to exchange experience with European regulatory authorities, discuss the best practices and perspective for cooperation with partners and presentation the results of European integration reforms in the national pharmaceutical sector.

The participants of the event discussed the perspective for strategic partnership between Ukraine and the EU in the pharmaceutical sector, regarding in particular:

- building a reliable regulatory system in Ukraine through the implementation of the Twinning project;

-  supporting the implementation of the Law on Critically Important Medicines and the establishing of strategic partnerships;

-  the potential of Ukrainian pharmaceutical manufacturers and studying the opportunities for their integration into European  medicines supply chains.

The participation in the international conference became a high-level platform for further strengthening the strategic dialogue between Ukraine and the EU.

Within the event,  Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control and the State Medicines Control Agency under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania, confirming the parties' interest in further developing cooperation with international partners, since the best practices and cooperation between regulatory authorities are the basis for supporting the development of Ukraine's regulatory system in line with EU standards.

The memorandum was signed by Roman Isaienko, Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control and Dovilė Marcinkė, Director of the State Medicines Control Agency under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania.
