Council of Europe Convention on the Counterfeiting of Medical Products and Similar Crimes Involving Threats to Public Health (MEDICRIME) provides the legal basis for cooperation between authorized health authorities, police, and customs authorities at the national and international levels, taking measures to combat crime, effectively bringing perpetrators to justice, and protecting victims and witnesses.
The MEDICRIME Convention is an international legal instrument aimed at combating the counterfeiting of medical products. This document is the first international agreement in the field of criminal law concerning the prevention of counterfeiting of medical products and similar crimes that threaten public health. The provisions of the Convention are implemented by:
- defining the criminalization of certain acts;
- protecting the rights of victims of crimes established in accordance with this Convention;
- encouraging national and international cooperation.
