The State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control and the State Agency of Medicines of the Republic of Latvia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which will mark an important step in the development of international partnership and in supporting Ukraine towards European integration.
The signing of this document launches new opportunities for deepening cooperation between the regulatory authorities of Ukraine and the Republic of Latvia in the sphere of state control over the quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines and medical devices. As a member state of the European Union, Latvia has significant experience in implementing European regulatory standards, which is particularly important for harmonizing Ukrainian legislation and practices with EU requirements.
The memorandum provides the development of cooperation in combating the circulation of substandard and counterfeit medicines, the exchange of information on national legislation and regulatory approaches, as well as collaboration on issues related to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP).
Key areas of the partnership include organizing joint seminars, training sessions, and roundtables; exchanging professional expertise in the certification of medicines and medical device manufacturing; conducting inspections to ensure compliance with GMP and GDP requirements; as well as cooperation in fulfilling international obligations under the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs and the Convention on Psychotropic Substances of 1971.
The signing of the Memorandum will serve as a foundation for the further development of effective cooperation between the regulatory authorities of the two countries, promote the adoption of best European practices in Ukraine’s pharmaceutical sector, and strengthen the system of state control over the circulation of medicines and medical devices.
