Meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Public Health and Sustainable Development was held on 7 October 2020

Officials of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control took part in the online-meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Public Health and Sustainable Development that was held on 7 October 2020.

The meeting covered hearing on “Securing safe medical supply chains”. Meanwhile, the panellists discussed how to build up resilience against future crises by making the medical supply chains more sustainable while ensuring that they meet the requirements of safety and quality.

The second part of the Sub-Committee hearing concentrated on the MEDICRIME Convention and how to prevent falsified medical products, i.e. medicines and medical devices from entering the supply chains.

The event was held with participation of representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and HealthCare of the Council of Europe and the Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development.

Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is one of the two statutory bodies of the Council of Europe. The Assembly addresses topical issues related to the problems of modern society and various aspects of international politics within the general mandate of the Council of Europe, which covers such areas as the protection of human rights, the development of democracy and the rule of law.

MEDICRIME Convention is the first international criminal law instrument to oblige each State-Party to criminalise: the manufacturing of counterfeit medical products; supplying, offering to supply and trafficking in counterfeit medical products; the falsification of documents; the unauthorised manufacturing or supplying of medicinal products and the placing on the market of medical devices which do not comply with conformity requirements. The MEDICRIME Convention came into force in Ukraine on 1 January 2016.
