Representatives of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control participated in the seminar on the inspection of establishments concerning substances of human origin (SoHO)

From 3 to 7 August 2026, representatives of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control participated in the seminar “Training on inspections of establishments concerning the supervision of substances of human origin (SoHO)”, Vilnius, Republic of Lithuania.

The event was organized within the framework of the EU Twinning project “Support the Establishment of the State Control Authority for Medicines and Medical Devices in Ukraine”.

During the seminar, Ukrainian specialists got acquainted with the peculiarities of the functioning of the Lithuanian system of supervision of substances of human origin, in particular with the legal framework in the sphere of donation and transplantation of tissues, cells and organs.

Particular attention was paid to the practical aspects of conducting inspections, evaluating the activities of tissue banks, documenting the results of inspections and the actions taken based on their results. Participants also took part in hands-on workshops and training sessions where they explored the application of EU best practices in the sphere of SoHO supervision.

An important component of the training were study visits to the National Transplantation Bureau in Vilnius, the tissue bank of the Clinical Hospital “Santaros” and the laboratory complex of the Research Scientific Institute. Direct acquaintance with the work of these institutions allowed the participants to deepen their practical knowledge of the organization of control and quality assurance in the sphere of substances of human origin.

Lithuanian colleagues also shared their experience in the use of CAR-T therapy in patients, and also spoke about the requirements for the relevant departments and premises, in particular the need to comply with the requirements of good manufacturing practice (GMP).

Participation in the seminar was an important step in deepening the professional competencies of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control`s specialists and exchanging experience with European partners.
