Mock session of the bilateral meeting between Ukraine and the European Commission

On December 19, 2024, a mock session of a bilateral meeting between Ukraine and the European Commission was held to assess the alignment of Ukrainian legislation with the EU acquis (screening) under Negotiation Chapter 28: Consumer Protection and Health”.

The purpose of the session is to prepare the Ukrainian side for participation in further meetings with the European Commission.

Opening the session, Maryna Slobodnichenko, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine for European Integration, expressed gratitude to the involved experts from the Ukrainian side and European partners for supporting  European integration of Ukraine efforts and outlined the current state of the national healthcare system in alignment with Article 168 of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine.

At the event, representatives of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control provided a presentation on “Medicines for Human Use”, which highlighted the principles of national legislation on quality control and circulation of medicinal products, analyzed the level of national specialized legislation compliance with EU law. Additionally, the experts of the SMDC informed the session participants about the organizational structure of the SMDC, GMP and GDP inspections, regulation of cosmetic products and medical devices, and the SMDC work plans for 2025-2026.

Based on the results of the session, European experts provided recommendations and advice regarding the presentations and speeches of Ukrainian officials at the Ukraine-EU bilateral meetings as part of the official screening process, scheduled for February 2025.
