On 28 May 2026, Volodymyr Korolenko, Acting Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control, and Svitlana Omelchuk, Head of the Division of Import of Medicines within the Department of Wholesale and Retail Trade of Medicines, participated in the congress “PHARMACIES OF THE WORLD-2026. From Turbulence to a New Market Model.” This event was organized by Proxima Research International.

The event was dedicated to the transformation of the pharmacy market of Ukraine in the context of profound regulatory and economic changes. In particular, the discussion was devoted to new regulatory changes in the context of digitalization and European integration of the domestic pharmaceutical industry.

Consequently, Svitlana Omelchuk concentrated on the distribution of non-prescription medicines within gas station facilities, examining associated risks and evaluating the potential for growth in this business sector.

As of now, licenses for retail trade of medicines have been secured by 11 major gas station networks, encompassing the largest networks across Ukraine, with operations established at 258 locations in 19 regions. However, coverage in the frontline regions remains inadequate.

The primary objective of implementing the sale of  medicines at gas stations is to ensure accessibility for residents in areas lacking pharmacy facilities.

The State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control oversees the adherence of business entities to legislative requirements concerning the retail distribution of medicines at gas stations.
