“Bitter Pills: Fighting the Illicit Market for Counterfeit Pharmaceuticals” workshop

The Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control took part in the ICHIP workshop “Bitter Pills: Fighting the Illicit Market for Counterfeit Pharmaceuticals”.

The workshop was held within the framework of the U.S. Department of Justice’s (ICHIP) “International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Program” and organized by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.

The workshop was attended by police officers, border guards, customs officers, healthcare professionals, and prosecutors from Bulgaria, Romania, and Ukraine.

The speakers were representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice, the Pharmaceutical Security Institute, the Greek police and the WHO, who shared the U.S. experience in countering new threats and practical aspects of investigations into counterfeit medicines, investigations of “black” Internet markets, acquisition and preservation of digital evidence.

During the event, participants were presented with methods of investigation, disruption and destruction of markets and supply chains of the counterfeit pharmaceutical products, strengthening control over the circulation of medicines.
