Meeting for business community on medical cannabis

At the end of last week, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine held an informational meeting for business communities interested in conducting business activities related to medical cannabis. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in cooperation with the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control, the State Enterprise «The State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine» and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

The Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine for European Integration Maryna Slobodnichenko presented the main directions of the implementation process for the medical cannabis law in her opening remarks.

Manufacturers, pharmacy segment, importers, farmers, etc. attended the event.

Representatives of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control informed the audience in detail about the regulations and norms on licensing and control of medical cannabis, in particular, the amendments to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on April 6, 2016 No. 282, which will come into force on November 30, 2024.

Professor Liliia Vyshnevska (National University of Pharmacy) explained the peculiarities of manufacturing medicines based on medical cannabis.

The Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization Mariia Karchevych introduced the features of the functioning of the electronic information system for cannabis accounting.

Participants also learned about the medical aspects of cannabis use, the registration of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) based on cannabis, and the specifics of the registration procedure for cannabis plant varieties.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has drawn attention to the fact that the cultivation, development, production, manufacturing, storage, transportation, acquisition, sale (release), importation into and exportation from the territory of Ukraine, use, utilization, and disposal of cannabis plants, raw materials and medicines made from will be subject to licensing.

We note that non-medical (recreational) use of cannabis remains prohibited in Ukraine.
