The aim of World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week is to promote responsible antibiotic use and raise public awareness of antimicrobial resistance.

A roundtable organized by the Bogomolets National Medical University and the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control was dedicated to these issues, which took place on November 22, 2024 at the medical university.

Young scientists and researchers, students, professors, and medical professionals attended the event.

The Rector of the Bogomolets National Medical University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, MD, Professor of Medicine Yurii Kuchyn and Deputy Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control, Dr. Volodymyr Korolenko delivered lectures and answered questions from the participants.

For reference.

During the current year, in accordance with the Procedure for Prohibiting (Temporary Prohibition) and Resumption of Medicines Circulation in Ukraine, approved by Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 809 dated 22.11.2011, the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control issued 9 orders prohibiting the sale, storage and use of medicines (antibacterial medicines, antimicrobial agents for systemic use, etc.), namely:

– 6 orders to prohibit circulation of 7 items of 7 batches;

– 3 orders to prohibit all batches of 6 items.

In 2024, 348 items of 4331 medicines batches were submitted for state quality control, which amounted to more than 25.5 million packs of antibacterial medicines, antimicrobials for systemic use, etc.

During the quality control of antimicrobial medicines, great attention is paid to checking the qualitative and quantitative composition: the name and concentration of the active substance (antibiotic) in accordance with the requirements of the specification.

An inappropriate (primarily low) antibiotic content in the systematic use of a medicinal product may lead to the development of antibiotic resistance.

At the same time, please note that information on all prohibited medicines is posted and constantly updated on the website of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control at https://surl.li/vrhj

Please be careful in purchasing medicinal products, especially when ordering online, and in case of detection of prohibited medicines batches, please immediately notify the State Administration on Medicinal Products in a convenient way, including via the web-site of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control at http://surl.li/btcdy
